About the student-organized Journal Club

The student-organized Journal Club focuses on R-loops, three-stranded nucleic acid structures that play crucial roles in gene regulation and genome stability. The Journal Club provides a collaborative space for students to discuss recent findings, share insights, and deepen their understanding of R-loops and their implications in various biological processes. We are reading both new papers and classic studies that have been fundamental to the R-loop field.

As we recently started the Journal Club in 2024, we will test three different formats and locations of the journal club, in order to find the best for us. Please pay attention to the Journal Club description to see the format of each upcoming event.

Everyone is welcome to join and enjoy good new and old R-loop papers papers!

Journal Club No 1 | 2024

Paper: Live-cell imaging unveils distinct R-loop populations with heterogeneous dynamics
2nd of October 2024, 17:00
Room 00.322, IMB

Note: We’ll discuss a paper figure by figure. Please read the paper in advance!

Journal Club No 2 | 2024

Paper: TBA
20th of November 2024, 14:00
Room SR3 01.202, BZ1

Note: This will take place after the R-loop club seminar. Two people will present two papers: one new paper and one R-loop “classic.”

Paper 1: RNase H enables efficient repair of R-loop induced DNA damage” DOI: 10.7554/eLife.20533.001

Paper 2.  Maintenance of R-loop structures by phosphorylated hTERT preserves genome integrity. https://doi.org/10.1038/s41556-024-01427-6

Journal Club No 3 | 2024

Paper: TBA
11th of December 2024, 16:00
Room 00.322, IMB

Note: This will be on the evening of the R-loop club seminar. Everyone will pitch a paper (reviews or method papers are also allowed), followed by a discussion based on the group’s interest.
