We offer highly specialized cutting-edge research projects with a focus on R-loops biology. If you are passionate about molecular biology, have a background in molecular biology or similar, and want to dive deeply into the world of R-loops, we highly encourage you application! Take a look at our projects to decide which one interests you the most! We recruit our students via our partner, the International PhD Programme (IPP). Our working language is English.

You will need :

  • Master’s degree or equivalent (1st Class BA Hons or BSc Hons)
  • Completed and signed application form
  • Contact details of two referees, who will be contacted by us
  • Proficiency in English

Our recruitment process

Create IPP account

IPP recruits its students twice a year. Once the call is announced, register at the IPP webpage and fill in your personal details. You will receive an email with a personalized link to the application form.

Submit Application Form

Complete the IPP application form. Supplement your application with two reference letters.

Invitation to interviews

After a few weeks following your application, you will receive an invitation to your interview in Mainz.

IPP Interview in Mainz

During the interview, you will have a chance to present yourself - and get to know our working groups! We end our interview days with a farewell party which is joined by current 4R-RTG students.

Receive offer for PhD position

Approximately two weeks after the interviews, successful applicants will receive an offer with a PhD position. If you are applying from abroad, the IPP office will help with your next steps.

Start your PhD with 4R-RTG

Once you start working on 4R-RTG project in one of our 14 research groups, you automatically become a member of 4R-RTG. Now, you can enjoy our highly specialized seminars, tech talks, travel support and much more!

R-loop club

Our R-loop club seminar series includes talks given by the experts in the R-loop field, as well as presentations by our 4R students. The seminars typically take place on the second-to-last Wednesday of the Month. All our talks take place in person.
